Equal Protection
Racial
classifications that affect the distribution of public assets and
benefits are un-American. All Americans are entitled to the right to be
free from government classification or differentiated rights and
benefits on the basis of their race, ethnic background, and other
characteristics as determined by the courts. Any tracking of racial
characteristics by the government for statistical purposes should be
voluntary. I oppose quotas in hiring, government contracts, and access
to California’s public institutions of elementary, secondary, and
higher education.
The
right to free exercise of religion is enshrined in the Bill of Rights
of the Constitution. Religious Americans are more likely to form strong
families, be employed, and support community values important to the
proper functioning of civil society. I support the right of every
Californian to practice the religion of his or her choice without
government interference or discrimination in private hiring. The
government shall not single out members of particular religious groups
for added surveillance or search absent some independent indicia of
individual wrongdoing, as such practices are irrational and
discriminatory and make our country less safe.
