Dhillon 2008 Kickoff a Success FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Assembly gathered this evening at Fior d’Italia, San Francisco’s oldest restaurant, to celebrate the launch of Dhillon’s general election campaign. Dhillon, the Republican nominee for the 13th Assembly District, representing the eastern half of San Francisco, was unopposed in the primary election on June 3, and will face Democrat San Francisco Supervisor Tom Ammiano in November. Dhillon and Ammiano are vying to fill the seat vacated by termed-out Democrat Mark Leno. In addition to winning her party’s nomination in the June primary, on June 3 Dhillon also won election to the San Francisco Republican Central Committee, coming in fourth in a field of 20 candidates to fill 12 seats. She currently holds a position on the California Republican Party as one of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 12 appointed delegates, and holds seats on the influential Resolutions and Platform Committees of the state party. Bay Area Republican Party leaders, South Asian supporters including several of Dhillon’s fellow board members from the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California, friends and campaign volunteers listened as San Francisco Planning Commissioner and Republican party activist Dr. Michael Antonini introduced Dhillon, describing her years of support of Republican causes and candidates in the heavily Democratic San Francisco, and her lifetime of support for conservative causes, dating back to her service as Editor-in-Chief of The Dartmouth Review. Dhillon then addressed the audience about her platform, including balancing the state budget, improving educational choices for California elementary and secondary school students, controlling illegal immigration and meeting the promise of equal opportunity for all Californians, regardless of racial background or religion. Dhillon pledged that if elected she would serve no more than two terms before returning to the private sector, in contrast to her opponent, who has been a politician for two decades. She also noted that she was the first Sikh American woman to ever run for the California legislature, and was the only Indian American candidate statewide in the 2008 elections running for the California legislature. The program concluded with Dhillon’s introducing the four Republican women running for state and national office in San Francisco: Conchita Applegate, Filipino American running for Assembly District 12; Sashi Sabriratnam McEntee, running for Senate District 13, and Dana Walsh, who is challenging Nancy Pelosi for the 8th Congressional District. Dhillon invited the crowd to visit her Web site, www.dhillon08.com, to learn more about her positions and her campaign, and also learn about volunteer opportunities with the campaign. ###
